More New Introductions for 2020

Bareroot season is in full swing, and nurseries, big box stores and on-line suppliers have a great selection. It’s also when new varieties are being introduced so be ready to be dazzled by the gorgeous photos and provocative descriptions. Keep in mind that as these varieties are brand new to the gardening public, there’s not a lot known about their performance. If the brief descriptions provided by supplier pique your interest, but don’t delay in making decisions.  Newer varieties tend to sell out quickly.

State of Grace  Blooms are old-fashioned, spiraled and double, apricot-gold color with a dark pink reverse. Rounded flowers with 3.5 to 4-inch diameter buds. Fragrant, and good as a cut flower. Grandiflora, Regan Nursery.

Bright & Shiny  Blooms are a bright cheerful color of apricot-orange with yellow; cuplike blooms with 12 petals. Dark green and glossy foliage. Shrub, Regan Nursery.

Camille Pissarro  Striped with yellow, red and white; blooms are 3 to 4 inches and are borne in large trusses. Compact plant, 3 to 4 ft. with dark green foliage. Shrub, Regan Nursery.

Oso Easy Peasy  Decorated with a prestigious Award of Excellence in the No Spray division from the American Rose Society. Its apple-green foliage resists powdery mildew and black spot, and its abundant magenta flowers appear in endless profusion from early summer through frost. Shrub, Proven Winners.

Queen of Elegance  Non-fading, old-fashioned blossoms of medium pink.  Very double, 3.5 to 4.5-inch petals with a strong rose scent. Floribunda, Regan Nursery.

Ringo  This truly special rose is awash in sunny yellow blooms, each graced with a bold red ring in the center. As the blooms age, they fade to white with a pink ring, continuing the effect. Sturdy and disease resistant. Shrub, Proven Winners.

Show Your Stripes  The classically pointed magenta blooms are striped with white and pale pink that makes them look like they have been painted on. They sit contrasted against semi-glossy, medium green foliage and they boast a strong clean, citrus scent that will stop anyone passing by in their tracks. Grandiflora, Jackson & Perkins.

Stiletto  Upright, vigorous plants put forth large, exhibition-style blooms that are a fashion-forward shade of deep magenta pink that is guaranteed to not fade or go out of style. She has a powerful perfume that fills the air and goes straight to your nose to ensnare your senses.  Hybrid tea, Edmunds’ Roses.
