Gregg will take us on a deep dive though the human connections with the rose.  From the ancient China Rose to the fabled Damask, Musk and Bourbon roses, he will lay out what we’ve learned in the past few decades about ancient garden roses and their connection with humans, similar to our connection with domesticated pets.

Does rose breeding have any long-term effect on how we think about roses or how we grow them? Why is buying cut roses never the same as growing and cutting them? Why do so many rose lovers shun wild roses?  What can we learn from our indigenous sisters and brothers? Gregg will discuss these questions and more!

Gregg Lowery has been collecting old and rare roses since the early 1980’s at his Sebastopol Nursery, which has evolved into The Friends of Vintage Roses, a non-profit dedicated to preserving these special roses – most of which are not available commercially.
