I have not been enchanted
By a single type of flower,
'Til I discovered roses,
Now I watch them by the hour.
Some roses grow in star shapes;
Others, large and lavish bloom
With sixty velvet petals,
Each unfolding its perfume.
Glossy jade leaves wave at me,
Canes, straight and strong, grow tall,
Tender buds burst to open,
Loose full-bloom petals fall.
There are many happy faces
Turned to greet me in my yard;
Floribunda sprays brightly glowing,
Like sun in crystal shard.
Surrounded by the softness
Of my garden full of friends,
My roses speak to me with joy,
Our world through rose-colored lens.
For some there are the lily blooms,
For others dahlias shine;
There always are a lot of folks
Saying foxglove is just fine.
I have not been enchanted
By a single type of flower,
'Til I discovered roses,
Now I watch them by the hour.
