Scentimental

Scentimental
Rose of the Month For October, 2009
by Gail Trimble

Scentimental™’ was hybridized by Tom Carruth from a cross of the red blend floribunda, ‘Playboy’ and the red blend floribunda, ‘Peppermint Twist’ – the latter rose gave ‘Scentimental’ its stripes. It was introduced by Weeks Wholesale Roses in 1997 and is classified by the American Rose Society as a red blend floribunda with 24-30 petals and a very good garden rating of 7.7.

‘Scentimental’ is gifted with a very sweet spicy fragrance and is the first striped rose to be awarded the All-America Rose Selection in 1997. Every bloom is unique with different stripes of burgundy and cream – even the undersides of the petals have patterns of swirls that are different from the tops. The bloom colors vary from deep red to deep pink with varying degrees of white.

Also known as ‘Scentimental Sunflor ®’ and ‘Street Parade’ (the latter according to the Combined Rose List), ‘Scentimental’ is the parent of 8 roses, including ‘Chihuly’, ‘City of Carlsbad’ (also known as ‘Hanky Panky’), and “Julio Iglesias’.
