Rose of the Month For October & November, 2005 by Barbara Picarelli
I bought this rose after returning from living in Germany and having seen it in a catalogue. I was pretty captivated since Ronda is my daughter’s name (without the “H”). It was hybridized in 1968, by Lissemore and has a parent of New Dawn. This is a large climber, and while it took its own time to get started is now quite large and a prolific bloomer. The flowers are a lovely light to medium pink, sometimes born singly other times in clusters, the buds being globular, with dark shiny foliage, and almost no disease. The fragrance unfortunately is very light and the blooms do not have great staying power once cut for a bouquet. I was wondering where the name came from and it was suggested it was named for the old film star, Rhonda Fleming. At any rate it’s an interesting rose to have in your garden if you have room. I obtained mine from Vintage Gardens.
