Rose of the Month For June, 2011 by Lydia Treadway, Master Rosarian
The rich magenta blooms of 'Princesse Alexandra' are beautiful and ruffled in appearance. It is a hybrid tea rose from the Renaissance® Collection that has an old rose look, with ruffled form and sweet strong fragrance. It blooms and flushes throughout the season. Her abundant, deep pink magenta flowers and strong rose fragrance make you stop and smell the flowers. I can not wait to cut the blooms and bring them into the house to enjoy their perfume. It was bred in 1998 by L. Pernille Olesen and Mogens Olesen in Denmark and was introduced into commerce by Poulsen Rosen A/S as ‘Princess Alexandra’. This rose was named after the Danish Princess Alexandra who was born June 30, 1964. The American Rose Society classifies this rose as a shrub with parentage listed as ‘Margaret Merril’ x seedling.
